PROFESSIONAL SUPERVISION & MENTORING

CREATIVE WAYS OF SEEING FOR OSTEOPATHS & THOSE WORKING IN HEALING PROFESSIONS

WHAT IS SUPERVISION?

Supporting fellow therapists—from newly qualified graduates to experienced practitioners—is something I care deeply about. I believe that when we support the helper, we can ultimately help more people.

Supervision offers a confidential, reflective space to explore all aspects of your professional life. It is designed to support you as a therapist and, in turn, enhance the care you provide to your clients. Rather than judgement or scrutiny, supervision is about “super-vision”—creating the opportunity to step back and view your experiences with curiosity and compassion. This process helps deepen self-awareness and strengthen your communication and relational skills.

The supervisory relationship is a supportive and collaborative one. It can help you grow and sustain a thriving practice, while also offering guidance when challenges arise. My aim is to support you in building a career that feels both rewarding and sustainable.

My approach integrates compassionate enquiry, psychology, group dynamics, and communication skills. I draw on the 7-Eyed Model of Supervision alongside over 19 years of experience in osteopathic clinical practice, teaching, and personal tutoring. I have a particular interest in working with the physical effects of stress and trauma, and I am well placed to support you in navigating complex cases—while also helping you care for your own wellbeing as a practitioner.

Supervision sessions also contribute towards your CPD, often covering areas such as:

  • Communication and patient partnership

  • Knowledge, skills and performance Safety and quality in practice

  • Professionalism

While many of my clients are osteopaths, I also work with a wide range of therapists in healthcare settings, including chiropractors, physiotherapists, manual therapists, and those working in psycho-spiritual practices.

The Purpose of Supervision is to:

Support safe, ethical, and effective practice

       Provide guidance, feedback, and accountability

Support practitioner personal wellbeing and professional development

Support practitioner wellbeing and professional development.

Help practitioners find fulfilment in their work.

To protect against practitioner burn out.

“Professional supervision has been a wonderful source of support for me as a new practitioner. Through reflective and compassionate discussions with Jo, we have created a safe space where I can explore my practice more deeply and with greater clarity. All the insights about myself and my work have helped me engage more fully with my patients.”

“For me supervision is the greatest gift you can give yourself and your patients. Jo is great at holding a calm, professional, non-judgmental and also friendly space for me to explore any area of my professional life. I just wish I could have had supervision right from the start of my career, 25 years ago. I hope supervision continues to grow in the osteopathy because I feel it not only helps the individual to grow but also the whole osteopathic profession.”

“Doing supervision with Jo has been one of the best decisions I have ever made and has proved invaluable for both my professional work and my personal life. Jo expertly holds sacred space to explore issues that have come up in my sessions with clients. She  guides me to explore my own emotional entanglement, suggesting reasonable boundaries with clients I have found tricky. On my first session we discussed my habit of running over time, Jo helped me see that I wasn’t trusting myself to do a good job within the allotted time, I never run overtime now! Jo has an amazing clarity and sensitivity in dealing with all issues, gained directly from her own wealth of professional experience. I trust her; she is always honest and with real compassion - she has been there! I am used to working on my own and it has been very healing for me to have Jo as a supervisor. I feel more confident that I am continuing my professional development and learning more fully how to integrate working in a healing modality with living an embodied life in these current times. I would recommend everyone to work with Jo and am deeply grateful to her for all she does.”

“I am so grateful to have supervision with Jo. Her wealth of knowledge and experience has allowed me to find clarity and a different perspective to situations that initially felt overwhelming. A professional, caring, safe space where no question ever feels silly. Jo is extremely intuitive and seems to know and understand what I can't always articulate. I had no idea how integral supervision has been for my osteopathic development and something I wish I had started earlier. I wholeheartedly recommend Jo.”
